This stunning and rare piece of history hails from the 1700s and is that era's version of a heart. Usually seen in a more faceted version of Stuart Crystal, this version has a beveled edge and is assumed to be glass as opposed to rock crystal. The locket contains a lock of braided hair securely held inside the double sided locket, however, the locket can be opened easily to remove contents if desired.
There are no hallmarks, as one would expect from this era, but it has been tested for approx 14k gold. There is a bail at the top so it can easily be added to a chain or necklace with dog clasp.
Total weight is 2.71g. Measures 24.6 x 14.3 x 5.6mm.
There is some darkening in some spots and no cleaning has been done to leave the piece as original as possible. The bezel edge of the glass has some slight nicks which are hard to see unless under close inspection.
These amazing little treasures are highly sought after and rare to find. Perfect for the serious collector or history lover.
