These delightfully mesmerizing flat cut garnet rings have an old gothic feel and a deep red shimmer from within, which is often a product of their foiling.
This particular example is gorgeous, with a fire inside that lights up at different angles. The band is hallmarked although it is quite worn - it appears to be 18ct and has been acid tested as well.
The garnet has been electronically tested and appears to be foiled with a closed back on reverse (this would require moisture to be kept away to avoid disturbing the foil). Gemologist reviewed as a natural square-cushion shaped garnet stone.
It is likely not a Georgian piece, although very reminiscent of such. Assuming an early 20th century construct since it is hallmarked and the design is a bit simpler. Still a gorgeous example and worth displaying and stacking with other bands for a unique one-of-a-kind look.
Band is 18k yellow gold and size 7.5 but easily sizable by a knowledgeable jeweler. The face of the ring measures approx 8 x 8 mm with the bezel being uneven in several places. Under 60x loupe there is a tiny mark at one edge where it is uneven and appears to be a chip or similar although likely done during construct as there is little wear to the stone.
