This gorgeous example of a black dot paste ring features glass paste stones, hand cut and carefully set in silver with the top forming the shape of a bow or eternity loop. The band is engraved all the way around with flowers and approx 12k gold (acid tests between 10k and 14k).
Black dot paste stones were a specific style of paste which emphasized the look of diamonds at the time by using a black dot in the centre of the stones which was made to replicate the open culet of a diamond. You see these pieces from the mid-late 1700s typically or Georgian era.
Although this ring was purchased as authentic and in original condition from Britain, I believe it may have been two separate pieces fused together into this glorious ring at some point in its history.
There are no hallmarks to determine exact era or country of origin.
Currently a size 10 and not recommended for sizing due to the eternity style of the band with the floral engravings. The centre stone has an opening at the back where typically a black dot would likely have been, but there is no backing there now.
