In the later part of the 19th century, when mourning jewelry had been in fashion for awhile, it started to evolve slightly to encompass a more beautiful look and feel rather than the somber pieces of earlier mourning jewelry. This set of earrings encompasses that era with it's symbolism in the "crescent" shapes and floral sprays emerging from them.
These gorgeous examples are very comfortable to wear with rounded ear wires of gold. They are quite light and move freely on the ear. The onyx is in good condition as are the pearls, which all appear to be original.
Ear wires test for 14k gold but these are attached to a base that is likely gold filled as it shows discoloration and wear.
There are 12 seed pearls in each earring. Earrings measure 1.12 inches tall not including wires and weigh a total of 7.29 grams together.
We also have a brooch that can be combined for a set.
Condition notes:
The earring settings that attach to the wire have discoloration and possible solder repair to the bottom of the ear wire on one earring. See photos for clarity.
