This antique Victorian Bohemian garnet brooch is a classic star or flower shape featuring heart shaped petals and teardrop garnets on the outer edge and a flower shaped centre. Crafted from possibly garnet gold or gold filled, this antique piece does not have any markings to indicate gold and does not hold up to 10k acid testing.
The garnets range in colour from rich, deep reds to purple red.
Era: Victorian. Approx 1860-1890.
Markings: No markings.
Stone: Bohemian garnets.
Metal: Assumed very low karat or gold filled. Testing did not hold up to 10k acid.
Size: Measures approx 38.5 x 33.8 x 10mm. or 1.5 x 1.33 x 0.40 inches. Total weight is approx 6.86g.
Condition: There are some condition notes to be aware of. Some of the top stones have tiny scratches and a couple small teardrop stones don't quite fill out their settings. These are not broken, this was part of the design originally. One of the petals on the top part of the brooch is bent up slightly, which looks to be because it was too close to the second layer. Pin stem is extra long and passes outside the brooch borders. Original clasp has been replaced with a more modern roll over clasp for security.
This item is used/antique so it has been previously loved. As such, it will show the normal signs of wear in the form of scuffs to the surface or wearing of details. Any obvious issues will be expressly detailed but none of our jewellery will be in perfect showroom condition due to it being vintage of antique.
